Our Women United volunteers gathered today to go to the preschools and daycares and read.
We had Cat in the Hat style hats made since it was Read Across America week. We read Giraffes Can’t Dance which is a really cute book. We gave the twenty volunteers a finger play and coloring sheets for the children. They also got to leave the book at the facility so the teachers could read it again. Everyone had a blast. The women love doing this. It gets them out with children and they get hugs and always have fun stories. But the real winners are the children. They see another adult role model.
I was fortunate enough to be able to be the reader in Head Start today. The kids were adorable. Twenty kids…twenty hugs. Who could ask for any more?
I am so thankful for the women who enjoy volunteering. I’m thankful for the difference we are making in the lives of children. Next reading day is set for May. We’ve already chosen our book.
