Not just a one day event, I'm blogging every day about what I'm thankful for

Random thoughts

I have two twitter accounts. One is more for work related stuff. So today I got this new follower. His profile says “I only follow back teachers and educators”. First of all, this isn’t someone I follow at all or have ever heard of. Second of all, I’ve never said in any tweets I was a teacher. Third, this guy has 46.7 K followers. Only follows 29k. And he found me????? Now, he can be a great resource so I may follow him back. But I just found it all odd.

Facebook rants: I swear all those videos that start playing immediately are slowing everything else down. Pictures take longer to load. If I want to watch a video, I will watch it. Otherwise, don’t force it down my throat Facebook. and while we are on the subject of Facebook. I wish they would quit changing things. If they want suggestions of things they could do that would make positive changes, I can give them a list I’m sure. But this wasn’t necessary at all.

Ever notice that all the people who condemn something are usually the worst offenders of that same thing? Or something very similar? I guess it just applies to everyone else.

Another twitter comment. There are people who never tweet about anything except their own book. And they do that dozens of times a day. I think it is time to unfollow them. They are boring and bring me nothing of value. So, a word. Be mindful of your tweets. Don’t monopolize a twitter feed with just you you.

  1. I haven’t come across a video on FB that just started playing on me yet. I did notice though that if I click one once it plays continuously until I refresh the page. Either way, it’s annoying.

  2. Well you got me. I am guilty of pumping just my posts out on twitter. Funny you posted this though because I just went into the account earlier and deactivated it. Really useless for me. Facebook? I despise Facebook! They like youtube force adverts and whatever else down your throat and up your bum. It wasn’t always like this… Advertising has ruined TV, radio and the internet. Money money money money money…. And when you croak, not a penny will go with you.

  3. I so agree about facebook videos..I’m over it! 🙂

  4. I agree with you about the Facebook videos. Drives me nuts when they go off and I don’t notice. As someone who only posts about his book on Twitter, all I can say is that I have nothing else to say. I can never understand what else is worth saying on there.

  5. I spent several days on twitter trying to figure it out. Then, I decided it wasn’t worth the time it was consuming. Maybe it is, but I haven’t learned it and don’t think I have time to learn much more about it right now. I would tweet other stuff when I see it, but it seems such a train of spam that I haven’t noticed much of value. Every once in a while, I’ll throw a line out there into the wind. My posts and reblogs go there. I hate commercials so much I won’t even watch TV unless it is the DVR where I can forward through the commercials. That’s what twitter seems…one long ass commercial.

  6. I have a twitter acct but I just can’t get into it. I’m not sure why.

Some random thoughts from Year ‘Round Thanksgiving – I empathise on the Twitter front – I had one follower -not sure if she still is who only follows writers and gets quite snippy when someone from any other persuasion mentions that she does not follow back! My view is that I take a look at people’s recent tweets – I am not a prude but offensive language turns me off and I also find 50 retweets a day about someone’s book irritating. A sprinkle is fine as most of us have something we would like noticed. My main irritation is those that follow you who have no profile except a name and a dubious picture. However, I do find that as a writer, following a diverse range of followers is useful as it sparks off story lines and certainly Saturday morning rantettes…..
